Horses For Heroes The OPHA is proud to have the Horses for Heroes Program for its 2009 charity. Horses for Heroes was the 2008 charity for the OPHA and we were so impressed with the program and each of the veterans that participated in the program that we felt they were deserving again this year. This wonderful program is held at the Fieldstone Farm Therapeutic Riding Center (TRC) in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. For the veterans who participate in this program, it is an all day event. It is their time to get out into the fresh air and be able to bond with the horses. There are men and women veterans who come to ride, carriage drive or work from the ground with the horses. The veterans thoroughly enjoy the experience of freedom of movement for those who use the wheelchairs, as well as self- confidence and physical strength that the program provides for them. This program is not only therapeutic for their bodies but also for their minds. It is a wonderful experience for all who watch the veterans transform from when they are in their wheelchairs to when they ride, carriage drive or work with the horses form the ground. It truly is all told by the expression on the face of each veteran. We thank each veteran and everyone at TRC for letting us share in the Horses for Heroes Program.
